    Stormie Omartian’s book is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to implement into one’s own life. However, the lack of specificity misleads one into thinking that prayer can be a quick and easy fix for any parental situation. Not the case at all. It’s faith that does all the work, and no prayer in this book will generate the faith necessary for psychological healing. That, my friends, comes from within.

    “Highlights” of this book:

    parents who believe that they cured their son’s rebellious behaviours by playing Christian music in his room while he was at school;

    a man who, not having had parents who prayed for him, turned away from God’s call to the ministry and subsequently suffered the break-up of his marriage and the death of his child;

    the time Mrs. Omartian taught her son to stop lying by lying to him (see the Case of the Broken Window and her use of equivocation);

    Mr. and Mrs. Omartian’s belief that they can “pray their children through” colds and the flu but must consult a doctor for more serious illnesses;

    the assertion that we can forbid the Devil access to our children’s lives by praying, to include praying that they not become homosexuals, or fat;

    Mrs. Omartian’s belief that her children freely accepted Jesus when they were five years old.

    And there is much more. I submit that too much of this book consists of anecdotal evidence, gross generalizations, wishful thinking, and wilful ignorance of plain facts for it to be useful to serious inquirers.

    Stormie has written the best books on prayer and touches on every possible subject incorporating God’s Word to pray by. As you pray these prayers daily for your children you will find personal conviction and eye opening devotions for yourself and others. It is never too late to begin praying for your children and there’s always more to pray about when they are adults.

    My husband and I read a chapter every night that we get to bed on time. This book, like the other “Power of a Praying -” books, helps us to think about and pray for our children’s development and experiences, past, present, and future. I highly recommend this book to any parent, single or not, as a guide to praying for your children wholly and completely.
